MPP solar controller for high-quality motorhomes, caravans and boats. Votronic solar controllers of the "MPP" (Maximum-Power-Point) series with "IU1oU2" charging characteristic are connected as a link between solar panel(s) and battery(ies). With MPP technology, the controller automatically determines the maximum power output (MPP) of the solar modules several times per second. It then transforms the voltage surplus of the solar module to a higher charging current for the battery (realised by high-frequency switching controller technology with high efficiency). This increase in charging current ensures shorter charging times and the best possible power utilisation of the solar system. The MPP solar controllers operate fully automatically, are maintenance-free and offer the following functions:

- MPP charging current increase compared to conventional controllers by 10 % to 30 % (efficiency > 95 %) due to the use of the latest controller technology (microprocessor). The increase in performance is particularly noticeable in the cooler seasons and, for example, during high snow, low and diffuse lighting (hibernation).
- For charging lead-gel, lead-AGM, lead-acid or LiFePO4 complete batteries (with integrated BMS, balancing, safety circuit and approval!) of the specified nominal voltages and for co-supplying consumers connected to these batteries in permanently installed systems with the specified battery capacities and charging programmes.
- The charging voltage is free of peaks and regulated in such a way that overcharging of the batteries is excluded.
- Two battery charging outputs: Automatic charging of the main supply on-board battery (BORD I) and back-up charging and charge maintenance (max. 1 A) of the vehicle starter battery (Start II) with protection against overcharging.
- Monitoring-free charging: Standard protection against overload, overheating, reverse polarity and battery back discharge (in case of insufficient solar power e.g. twilight, at night etc.).
- Parallel/buffer operation: Compliance with charging regulations even with simultaneous operation of loads.
- Overcharge protection: Regulates the charging current of the battery back when there is too much solar power and the battery is full, ensures that the battery is charged as much as possible when power is consumed by immediately recharging.
- "IU1oU2" charging characteristic: Defined charge voltage increase (U1) prevents harmful acid stratification (lead) and ensures equalisation charging of the individual battery cells (lead and lith.), then automatic trickle charge (U2).
- Charging cable compensation: Voltage losses on the charging cables are automatically compensated.
- On-board power supply filter: problem-free parallel operation with wind and motor generators, mains chargers, alternators, etc.
- CI bus connection: for displaying all relevant data on a central vehicle display.
- Measurement output for EBL, possibly existing electrical block in the living area of the vehicle: Enables convenient use of a (solar) current display built into the electrical block to check the solar system.

- Switching output "AES" (only MPP 260 CI, MPP 360 CI and MPP 440 CI): Causes refrigerators with "AES" (Automatic Energy Selector, Electrolux / Dometic) to switch automatically from gas to 12 V operation if there is a permanent surplus of solar power.
- Connection for battery temperature sensor (art. no. 2001): In the case of lead batteries, the charging voltage is automatically adapted to the battery temperature, resulting in better full charging of the weaker battery in cold weather, and avoiding unnecessary battery gassing and load in summer temperatures.

Adapted to sealed, gas-tight gel/dryfit batteries with fixed electrolyte, which generally require a higher charging voltage level and longer U1 holding times in order to achieve short charging times with particularly high capacity storage and to avoid long-term battery "starvation".

2: "AGM": Charging programme for AGM/fleece batteries, characteristic IU1oU2.
Intended for charging sealed, gas-tight AGM (Absorbent-Glass-Mat) batteries in lead-fleece technology, which require a particularly high U1 level with coordinated holding times for full charging and then a moderate U2 level for charge retention (plate and round cell technology).

4: "UNIVERSAL": Charging programme for lead-acid/wet/AGM batteries, characteristic IU1oU2

General notes:

Charge boosters, also called B2B chargers (Battery to Battery) or charge controllers or simply VCC, ensure optimum charging of the body battery while driving. The latest motorhomes with Euro 6 or Euro 6+ engines are equipped with an intelligent battery management system (BMS), which, among other things, only switches on the alternator when the starter battery needs power again in order to comply with the strict emission standards. This means that the body battery is largely ignored and may not be sufficiently charged.

The charge booster signals to the alternator that charging current is needed and electronically increases the charging voltage for the body battery, also to compensate for line losses. Various charging programmes enable precise setting of the optimum charging characteristic for the body battery. It also disconnects the chassis mains from the body mains, as the battery disconnect relay is removed or deactivated. Up to 30 Ah can be recharged per driving hour with smaller charge boosters.

Charge boosters are useful if
- you own a Euro 6 or Euro 6+ vehicle
- you mainly make short journeys
- you are mainly self-sufficient and want to use the driving time effectively for battery charging
- you only have a small solar system and want to use an additional charging source in bad weather.

You can do without a charging booster for the time being and always retrofit it later, when

- you are connected to shore power again after 1 day at the latest
- you have installed a well-dimensioned solar system (200 Wp or more).

You can install a charge booster yourself if you know what you are doing. If you are unsure, you should definitely consult a specialist.

Ultra-high efficiency green battery charger

With up to 95% efficiency, these chargers generate three to four times less heat than the industry standard. And, once the battery is fully charged, power consumption is reduced to 0.5 watts, five to ten times better than the industry standard.

Durable, safe and quiet

Low heat load on electronic components - Protected against ingress of dust, water and chemicals. - Protection against overheating: The output current is reduced when the temperature rises up to 60 °C, but the charger does not fail. - The chargers are completely silent: no fan or other moving parts.

Storage mode: less corrosion on the positive plates.

Even the lower voltage of the float charge phase that follows the constant voltage phase causes grid corrosion. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to reduce the charging voltage even further, even if the battery remains connected to the charger for more than 48 hours.

Charging with temperature equalisation

The optimum charging voltage of a lead-acid battery varies inversely with temperature. The Blue Power IP65 charger measures the ambient temperature during the test phase and equalises the temperature during the charging process. The temperature is measured again when the charger is in low current mode, charge maintenance voltage phase or storage mode. Therefore, no special settings are needed for a cold or hot environment.

Lithium-ion battery (LiFePO4)

The Blue Power charger uses a specific charging algorithm for lithium-ion (LiFePO4) batteries, with an automatic lithium-ion undervoltage protection reset function.

Fully discharged battery recovery function

Most chargers with reverse polarity protection will not recognise a battery that has been discharged to zero volts or close to zero volts and therefore will not recharge it. However, the Blue Power charger will attempt to recharge a fully discharged battery with low current and will resume normal charging once sufficient voltage has been built up across the battery terminals.
